Emily Dickinson is one of my most favorite poets. I love all of her poems, but one of my favorites is; "Heaven is what I cannot reach". I absolutely love this poem because it is so simple but has so much meaning. The title tells what the whole poem is about, not being able to reach heaven. My favorite part of the poem is in the second line when it says "The Apple on the Tree". Dickinson is comparing heaven to an apple on the tree. Sometimes you cannot reach the apple when it is up on a high branch.
"Heaven"—is what I cannot reach!
The Apple on the Tree—
Provided it do hopeless—hang—
That—"Heaven" is—to Me!
The Color, on the Cruising Cloud—
The interdicted Land—
Behind the Hill—the House behind—
There—Paradise—is found!
Her teasing Purples—Afternoons—
The credulous—decoy—
Enamored—of the Conjuror—
That spurned us—Yesterday!
thoughts galore :)

The letter "A"
In "The Scarlet Letter" the red letter A
stands for, adultery, penance, and penitence. The letter A was seen in a lot of
ways in the novel. But the way that I have always heard that it was shown is
made out of bright red cloth. The woman that practiced adultery, penance,
and/or penitence had to wear it on their clothes so that everyone could see
that they done one of those things. They always got shunned by everyone if they
acted upon one of those "sins". This novel "The Scarlet Letter"
reminds me of the movie Easy A. Here is what Easy A is all about; In this
charming, critically acclaimed tale of rumors and reputation, Olive (Emma
Stone), an average high school student, sees her below-the-radar existence turn
around overnight once she decides to use the school's gossip grapevine to
advance her social standing. Now her classmates (Amanda Bynes, Aly Michalka)
are turning against her and the school board is becoming concerned, including
her favorite teacher (Thomas Haden Church) and the distracted guidance
counselor (Lisa Kudrow). With the support of her hilariously idiosyncratic
parents (Stanley Tucci, Patricia Clarkson) and a little help from a long-time
crush (Penn Badgley), Olive attempts to take on her notorious new identity and
crush the rumor mill once and for all. I recommend that all of you at least watch the trailer to this movie so that you can see how it relates to the novel "The Scarlet Letter".

Uncle Tom's Cabin and the Help
I did not read the
entire novel of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" but I did read parts of some of
the chapters and I also read several reviews of the novel. I thought that what
I read and what I found out about the novel is very interesting. I also found a
short video that I liked. It does not really talk that much about the novel but
it says some things about it.
UNCLE TOM'S CABIN

The novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin" kind of
reminds me of the movie, "The Help". Here is a brief description
telling what "The Help" is about. An aspiring author during the civil
rights movement of the 1960s decides to write a book detailing the
African-American maids' point of view on the white families for which they
work, and the hardships they go through on a daily basis. As you can see both
the novel "Uncle Tom's Cabin" and the movie "The Help" both
talk about what the blacks had to do and go through during slavery. If you have
not seen this movie yet I recommend that you go out and rent it and watch it.
It is a very good film!

My Creative Writing Assignment
I
was not sure how to do this assignment but here is what I came up with on how
to do it.
I took this photo and
gave it the caption that I did because I thought that it would fit right in
with where Thoreau is coming from in his stories. He loves the nature and to me
it seems like nothing is ever going to hold him back. The picture fits into the
nature category and the caption, “the sky is the limit” fits into the part
where nothing is holding him back. This picture was taken when I was camping
last weekend. I took it one night when it was just getting ready to turn dark.
No one would sit here and ever be able to guess where this picture is taken. I
took it on the side of the river bank. Nature is such a lovely thing all
together!

The Best of The Best; Poe
Poe is one of the best writers that I know of. I
know there are a lot more writers of all sorts out there. I have never been
able to just sit and read their stories and poems. But with Poe I can just pick
something up of his and sit and read all day. His writing is so different from
everyone else's. He puts so much drama, feelings thought and emotion into his
writing. A lot of his pieces are dark and Gothic. But, that is what keeps it
interesting. When he writes you sit and feel so different because you feel like
you are in the story, living the life of the main character. I absolutely love
that feeling. That is why when we started pod number three I went straight to
all of Poe's pieces. I enjoy his writing a lot.
